A study in the mundane
This is a study of everyday street objects - their functionality and form. They exist in one shape or another on every street so I consider them either overlooked and possible unloved until now.
Shining a light on the overlooked
To bring the sublime into the mundane
is the greatest challenge there is
An introduction to the concept
I have in these examples looked at objects which have a utilitarian purpose but have a striking presence about them - possible because of their universality but they show changes either due to changes over the years in their use ; changes due to commercial reasons on cost ; changes due to changes in function or that they are new. The site shows a number of such examples
The display is either by photographs or showing posters printed from the photographs . The images are in three by three format to encourage viewers to look more closely at the street objects - an exercise they would not have bothered with when passing them by. The posters are shown on the street - returning them to their natural habitat and to find an audience who may not have bothered looking at them in their local art gallery
An illustration of the complexity of modern life and the amount of information - either in words or designs that we are faced with everyday , everywhere we go
